If You're Stuck...

"If you're stuck, it's probably because you're onto something but you're not telling the whole truth." Dr. Tommy Darwin

I had the joy of beginning in a 9 month long visioning process at First UMC, Round Rock.  The process is being led by Janet Mitchell and Dr. Tommy Darwin with the M Group based out of Austin, in partnership with the Texas Methodist Foundation.  It's been an outstanding process so far and among the things I'm grieving is the reality that I don't get to finish what I started with the leaders there.  As I was going through papers (my least favorite thing to do) in preparation for the move, I found my notes from the last meeting I shared with them in September.  And there I ran across this quote.  "If you're stuck, it's probably because you're onto something but you're not telling the whole truth."

Tommy was talking about the brain storming process but boy does it have the ring of a life-wide truth.  It takes some courage to go further into the belly of the thing you'd rather keep ignoring.  It takes some courage to speak what's really underneath all that's on the surface.  It takes some courage to not retreat from what may feel a bit like an exposed nerve.

Honestly I'm really writing this blog for myself.  To remember this beautiful word from a very wise (and practical) man.  When you're stuck, keep walking further and further and further toward truth.  Even if is uncomfortable.  Even if it feels like exposure.  Because truth will set you free.
